The Champagne Standard

Last week I was lucky enough to be invited to Tsogo Sun’s champagne tasting event hosted at the Southern Sun Hyde Park. We were treated to delicious Moët & Chandon Nectar Imperial on arrival, which we were told later is similar in taste to the champagne people enjoyed over 200 years ago. It was a yummy champagne that had a slightly sweet taste compared to normal Brut champagnes.

Once all the guests were in attendance, the wonderful Miguel (the evening’s sommelier) gave us an introduction to champagne. Did you know that champagne is the perfect accompaniment to any meal because of its versatility? And did you know that there are 245 million bubbles in a bottle of champagne? These were some of the tidbits we were told before we started the tasting of five different champagnes.

The reason behind this decadence was Tsogo Sun’s announcement that they have selected a diverse collection of champagne and negotiated the best prices possible to make these available at selected Tsogo Sun properties nationwide. This means that you can now add some decadence to your next meal without burning a hole in your pocket.

And what’s the point of going to an event with such lovely ladies if you don’t take a selfie?! This is a selfie-ception…

I couldn’t have asked for a better way to end off a work day than sipping on champagne, chatting to some gorgeous ladies, and taking in the sublime sunset from the hotel’s deck.
