Great ideas don’t keep office hours

I don’t know about you, but this seems to happen to me often. I’ll be sitting in the car in traffic and come up with the most epic of ideas just as the robot turns green and I have to negotiate with a taxi who is driving on the wrong side of the road so I don’t have time to write it down. And just like that the idea is gone. Sometimes if it’s super fabulous, it’ll come back to me later on. But most times I forget all about it. I’d probably be a gajillionaire now if I’d remembered just that one idea which would have prompted everyone else to say “I wish I’d thought of that”…

So this happened the other night…

I was in the shower when an absolutely amazing idea came to me for one of my clients. I don’t keep a pen in the shower so I couldn’t write it down, and even if I could I’m not sure what I’d write on. I didn’t reach for my cell because let’s be honest, iPhone-death-by-drowning would not a happy Jess make. So I did the next best thing… I shouted at the top of my lungs for my husband to come through so I could relay this fabulousness. He came a-running (probably because he thought I’d hurt myself) and listened attentively while I excitedly rushed through my idea. Talking it through with someone helped me to remember it later on. Though had I not remembered it, I’m sure I’d be able to rely on my husband’s memory.

What do you do when you have an idea and you can’t write it down?
