I had this dessert at So Yum Restaurant at Hyde Park last night with a friend of mine who was up from Cape Town.
It is listed as “Berry Meringue” on their dessert menu and is priced at *R38.00 per portion. It is a sticky meringue topped with berry infused cream and finished off with a tart berry compote.
When I chose this dessert off the menu, I was assuming it would be on the small side, but boy was I wrong! It arrived and the meringue itself was about the size of a small side plate. And the berry infused cream was piled on top of it making it quite indulgent. The very sweet meringue was complimented by the not-so-sweet cream. But after gorging myself on dinner, there wasn’t that much space for such a big dessert. But having an unrivalled sweet tooth, I finished every last crumb and then had a Food-Baby to contend with. I will definitely have this again, though I’ll have to have a small main meal to leave more space!
